Hey guys..
So I have a friend who is also a creative and an amazing designer who studies textile design who I have been keen to "collaborate" with for a while. We recently took a day to materialize (get it? - because t-shirts are made from material!) some of our design ideas. We pretty much ended up doing a type of swap where I made a shirt for her and she made one for me (well for me to give as a gift - it's a girls shirt). We discussed ideas and came to some conclusions and after deciding on the fits that we wanted for our respective tees we went straight into action with scissors, brushes, fabric paint and fabric marker. These were the results:
The shirt I made:
Inspired by the South African flag - obviously!
Oh... and I managed to come across a "signature". Try to guess what inspired that!
The shirt Hele made:
Inspired by South Africa's national flower - the Protea, stylized as "proe-tea-ah".
"proe-tea-ah" is a play on some Afrikaans and English words that when you say them you actually say the Afrikaans word for "Protea". "Proe" means "taste", "tea" is tea and "ah" is the sound you make when you enjoy your tea!
The below images are just some small details that we added - the purple button fastens the turn-ups of the sleeves, which we thought was a cool little finisher and Hele signed underneath my "signature" block to add an element of individuality.
I am going to be uploading a post explaining the process of the designing and making of the "proe-tea-ah" shirt. I love seeing designers' process work and these were really fun shirts to make.
Hope you guys digg them :D
I design prints for shirts sometimes.. I use a number of different methods in the actual painting/printing of the images, depending on how complicated they are. The designs on the shirts are all my own and in most cases quite experimental. If you like any of my designs please comment. If you don't you can comment too. If you want a design contact me and we can make a plan.. Thanks for checking out my blog. Hope you digg it!
